Taking a Break

Emetophobia Therapy (Fear of Vomiting) – Online Support UK

😔 Feel trapped by the fear of being sick?

Emetophobia is more than a fear of vomiting — it can take over your thoughts, your body, and your daily life.

You might look “fine” on the outside, but inside you’re constantly managing anxiety, scanning your body, or avoiding situations that feel unsafe.

It can feel exhausting, isolating, and at times overwhelming — especially if other people don’t fully understand how real it feels.

You don’t have to keep managing this alone 💛

🧠 You might be experiencing…

  • A constant feeling that you might be sick

  • Panic in public places, shops, schools or while travelling

  • Avoiding certain foods, people or situations

  • Needing to know where toilets or exits are at all times

  • Reassurance-seeking or checking your body for symptoms

  • Intrusive thoughts around being unwell or losing control

  • Feeling embarrassed or misunderstood by others

Even if this doesn’t happen all the time — the fear of it happening can still control your choices.

🔄 Why emetophobia feels so intense

Emetophobia is closely linked to anxiety and the body’s threat system.

Your brain is trying to protect you — but it becomes over-sensitive, constantly scanning for danger and sending strong physical signals like nausea, dizziness or panic.

This creates a cycle:

  • You feel a sensation

  • Your brain interprets it as danger

  • Anxiety increases

  • Physical symptoms intensify

And the cycle continues.

Over time, this can lead to avoidance, loss of confidence, and feeling like your world is getting smaller.

🤝 How I can help

I’m Roseanna, a Senior Accredited Counsellor specialising in anxiety, trauma and phobias, including emetophobia.

With over 15 years’ experience and more than 8,000 client hours, I’ve supported many people who feel stuck in this cycle — helping them understand what’s happening and gently regain a sense of safety and control.

Therapy with me is:

  • Warm, supportive and non-judgmental

  • Tailored to you and your pace

  • Focused on both understanding and practical change

We don’t force or rush anything. Instead, we work together to:

  • Reduce the intensity of anxiety

  • Break the fear cycle

  • Build confidence in your body again

  • Help you feel calmer and more in control

💻 What therapy sessions are like

Sessions are 50 minutes and take place online, so you can access support from the comfort of your own space.

You can choose:

  • One-off sessions for flexible support

  • Weekly therapy through a monthly subscription

  • Focused work around specific fears or triggers

There’s no pressure to “perform” or explain everything perfectly — we start where you are.

Frequently asked questions

Can therapy help emetophobia?

Yes — with the right support, emetophobia can become much more manageable. Therapy helps you understand the cycle of fear and reduce the intensity of your response over time.

Do I need a diagnosis?

No. You don’t need a diagnosis or referral — just the willingness to start.

How long does it take?

This varies for each person, but many clients begin to feel some relief as they start to understand what’s happening and feel more supported.

Will I have to face my fears straight away?

No. Therapy is paced carefully. We work in a way that feels safe and manageable for you.

🌿 You don’t have to keep living like this

If your world has started to feel smaller, or you’re constantly on edge, therapy can help you feel more like yourself again.

You don’t have to have all the answers — just a starting point.
